SURJ San Diego acknowledges that we work upon the unceded land of the Kumeyaay Nation.

The Kumeyaay people have been stewarding this land millennia upon millennia, adapting to countless changes in climate, geography, and politics with resiliency. This organic knowledge, living within the Kumeyaay creation story, has not only survived adversity, but thrived.

Today, a new generation of knowledge bearers work toward the revitalization of Kumeyaay language, culture, and traditional ecological knowledge. It is hoped that people will learn from others and that we will grow together.

The SURJ San Diego Land Acknowledgement was developed with Dr. Stanley Rodriguez (Kumeyaay – member of the Santa Ysabel Band of the Iipay Nation) with the help of Kyla Curo of the Barona Reservation.
